CONGRESSMAN BRALEY ENDORSES CLIMATE MARCH
Des Moines, IA – Iowa Representative Bruce Braley has been racking up his own long list of endorsements as of late, but in a bold move to show his support for the Great March for Climate Action, he endorsed the effort today. Braley is the first member of Congress to officially support the eight-month, 3000-mile march to raise awareness for the need to take action on the climate crisis.
Braley said, “Climate change is real and you don’t have to take my word for it. The Climate Action Partnership – a group of companies and organizations from Dow Chemical to the Environmental Defense Fund – recognizes the crisis and has called for action. Yet our nation’s leaders have ignored the devastating impact of man-made climate change for too long.”
Braley continued, “It’s been said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I hope the Great March for Climate Action will represent a new beginning of efforts to address this critical problem, and I’m proud to support it. We have a long road ahead to solve the challenge before us, but if we take it on one step at a time, we can accomplish anything.”
Great March for Climate Action Communications Director Heather Ryan said, “We are absolutely elated that Congressman Braley supports the goals of The Great March for Climate Action and understands the devastating impact climate change will have on our economy and life as we know it. We hope that the rest of Congress will follow Mr. Braley’s lead and be proactive. Then we’ll see real change.”
Beginning March 1, 2014, One Thousand “Climate Patriots” will march through 11 states for a total of over 3000 miles during the Great March for Climate Action. The effort will begin on the west coast and end in Washington, DC eight months later. A complete route map will be released after the Memorial Day holiday.
