On April 14 & 15, the Great March for Climate Action will pass through Payson, Arizona. We are excited that the local community is coming out to welcome us and join us in the important conversation and work we all need to take part in to ensure any kind of future for ourselves and our children and grandchildren.
On April 14, marchers will gather outside Payson at the the traffic light by the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, and be welcomed at 2:00 PM with snacks and hot dogs. Come and welcome marchers still arriving, and at 3:00 PM join us, the local Boys Scouts’ color guard, and a courtesy police escort as we march the last two miles into town to our camp for the night at the Payson Christian School (1000 E Frontier St).
At 6:00 PM, meet us at the Christian School for Mayor Kenny Evans’ official welcome of the march to Payson, followed by a covered dish dinner (lots of goodies), and conversation about efforts toward sustainability locally (and nationally and globally). At 7:45 PM there will be music, hootenanny and folk songs, led by Cinnamon Twist.
On April 15, you can join us again at the Payson Christian School (1000 E Frontier St) at 7:00 AM for a Native American “Mother Earth Prayer/Blessing”
By 7:15 AM, we expect to be on our way, again with a police escort to the town limits on Highway 260 East. We have to keep on marching to get to Washington, D.C. by November 1. Thanks in advance, Payson, for such a grand reception!
