I have said a lot of very kind things about our team in California: State Coordinator Ki Coulson, Fundraising Coordinator Caley Chase, Taylor Miller and many more. But some of their recent work has gone beyond expectations. Through their respective networks and efforts, we have recieved the support of several conscientious celebrities and well-known activists. A couple have taken it even further and donated their time and status to help raise money for the Climate March.
While at the Sundance Film Festival, Taylor was able to snap pictures of several actors, directors and famous activists showing their support for the Climate March, including Zach Braff, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Spurlock, Kweku Mandela (the grandson of the late Nelson Mandela) and more. To check out the full photo gallery, head here!
We have also teamed up with auction site CharityBuzz.com to offer some one-of-a-kind items with proceeds going to support the Climate March. These include a vegan lunch with Ed Begley, Jr., courtside tickets to either a Los Angeles Clippers or Lakers game with actress/director Penny Marshall and a photo shoot with “The Griswolds”, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. The money raised from these auctions will be used to purchase supplies while on the road during the Climate March, including local and organic food from farmers and producers along the March route. People are able bid on the auction items through February 11.
While courting celebrities has never been a huge part of our mission, having their support adds an additional level of exposure. Just from the simple act of taking their picture with the Climate March poster, we have attracted new followers on Facebook and Twitter, which in turn spreads our message further and further. So, thank you to our new followers, thank you to our Hollywood supporters and thanks to the staff in California for making all this happen!
