Organize a series of events with the goal of bringing thousands of marchers and March supporters to Washington, DC on November 1, 2014 and during the week that follows. November 1st would include a march, rally, and one other action-oriented event. The events and actions over the week that follows are a work in progress that will be worked out over the summer. During the next couple of months, marchers working with March staff will identify specific goals for numbers of participants we except at the march into DC, the rally, and subsequent events.
Our DC Coordinator would be responsible for assembling a great team of key volunteers to help pull all the pieces together, including involving our community of Virtual Marchers. Working with marchers and other staff, they would determine the best route into DC, secure a strong symbolic location for the rally, and arrange a representative, diverse, passionate line-up of speakers among local partners, allies and marchers. Work with local authorities as needed for logistics such as blocking off streets if necessary. And help secure lodging for any marchers staying in DC past November 1st.
Partnering organizations to be approached include all who have endorsed us on the March website, and particularly 350.org, Sierra Club, Citizens Climate Lobby, Climate Reality Project, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Natural Resources Defense Council, League of Women Voters, Interfaith Power and Light, Center for Biological Diversity, and National Wildlife Federation. Also, it is important to reach out to allies and partners that are not necessarily focused on climate and the environment, including Labor, Minority, Health, Business and Local Government constituencies, to name a few.
The DC organizing team brought together by our DC Coordinator would work with staff and appropriate Marcher work teams to achieve maximum success and outreach. They would collaborate with the Marcher Allies Team to build a broad-base of national and local partners to work with us on these events.
Work with the Communications Director to contact possible press opportunities. Collaborate with marchers and virtual marchers Communications Team and Media Teams. Work with our local and national coalition partners to help get the word out, and invite as many as are able to join us. Connections with major music, film, environmental and political heavyweights a plus.
Compensation, $3,000/monthly
